Where there is demand, there is a market!
The transplantation of organs is mostly based on organ procurement from deceased persons, but due to organ shortage, transplantations are performed from living related and unrelated donors. Whereas in cases of cadaveric organs, misuse and trade are a mixture of mere imagination and unfounded statements, organ procurement from living donors can initiate discussions on diverse misuse and a world-wide black market. Although there are almost no such examples in Europe, it would be reckless to ignore facts on organ trade in the world. And this in fact will be the topic of my report.
It is understandable that the large discrepancy between the demand and the limited offer leads the patients to search for organs, and numerous impoverished individuals are motivated to sale for profit. The need for organs from living donors is even more accentuated in countries where cultural or religious factors make the procurement of organs from deceased persons more difficult.

BAJKA O KRAĐI ORGANA
Američki časopis “Reader’s digest” u jednom od svojih izdanja donio je najistaknutije slučajeve otmica i ubojstava u svijetu, za koje se tvrdilo da su motivirani krađom i trgovinom organima. Uključuju izvještaje Odbora za ljudska prava UN-a, organizacije Liječnici bez granica, Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije i dr., u kojima se otkriva da nijedan od tih brojnih medijski prezentiranih slučajeva nema konkretnu potvrdu ili dokaz. Prema nalazima te temeljite pretrage za žrtvama i ubojicama “Reader’s digest” nazvao je taj članak bajkom o krađi organa. (Nađa Berbić, Novi list, Rijeka)
